Daisy Bank

Braemar, Aberdeenshire · Restoration underway

The Cottage

The best surviving of its kind

Daisy Bank is a B listed Victorian cottage on Fife Brae in Braemar, with a rare adjoining timber wee house, a pairing now unique in the village. Its front door still carries the stained glass fanlight with DAISY BANK in the glass, its rooms still hold their bell pushes, and the wash house still has its cast iron tub from the Falkirk Ironworks.

Heritage Scotland calls it the best surviving intact example of Braemar's traditional cottage and wee house pairing. We call it the start of the collective.

The Story

Built for guests since 1890

When Victorian Deeside became the most fashionable health resort in the British Isles, the people of Braemar built wee houses in their gardens. Each summer they moved in, and gave their cottages over to visitors arriving for the air, the hills and the royal neighbours.

Daisy Bank was built for guests. More than a century on, we are restoring it to welcome them again.

The restoration is being carried out with a conservation architect, under listed building consent, keeping the cottage's remarkable interior intact. It will take as long as it needs to.

Progress, photography and an opening date will appear here in time.
